Maria Montessori

  • Dr. Maria Montessori, a medical doctor and pioneer educator, was born in Italy in 1870 and died in 1952.  Montessori based her education plan upon the observations of children in diverse cultures and in many countries and therefore her discoveries are universal principles of human behavior. 

  • The success of the Montessori education in meeting the childs needs depends on it’s application in 3 major facets, the prepared environment, the prepared adult(traditionally called teacher), freedom with responsibility.

  •  In Montessori education at every level, it is always through interaction with the environment that the child learns, the teacher is only a part of that environment.

  • To meet such a challenge; it follows that the environment cannot be haphazardly designed by an individual teacher’s whim. It’s structure must be “ Scientifically planned and methodically formed.”

  • To prepare teachers for the challenging role ,Formative age has designed a thorough training course.

  • The pre- primary training is not for the teacher to be a expert only in the presentations of the didactic material, rather the goal is to become a “ Renaissance Person”, sufficiently knowledgeable to arouse the children’s interest in each area and to direct them to the available sources for the answers to their questions.

  • The presentation of the didactic material is covered in detail during the course. An additional bonus for the teacher candidate is that many subjects encountered earlier in their education are often now understood on a deeper level.

  • In addition to working  directly with the didactic material, teachers in training make their own “Albums” which give them a deeper understanding of the method. Each trainee’s album is inspected. They will also will be coming up with ideas to make their own material. This hands on experience give a complete understanding for the teacher candidate. Final written , practical and original material examinations are given.

  •  Observation of children not only deepens the teachers understanding of the child’s development but helps the teachers develop the habit of self observation and personal reflection.
